Routine Exams & Dental CleaningsAndover, KS

Routine exams and cleanings are the cornerstone of good oral health. At Andover Family Dentistry, Dr. Howell and our experienced team provide thorough, personalized care that catches problems early, prevents future issues, and keeps your smile healthy for life.

Whether it’s been six months or six years since your last visit, we’re here to help you get back on track with care that’s professional, comfortable, and never rushed.

More Than Just A Quick Look

Every exam at Andover Family Dentistry is comprehensive. Dr. Howell doesn’t just check your teeth, he evaluates your gums, bite, jaw, and overall oral health to get the complete picture.

We look for cavities, cracks, and worn enamel. We check for gum disease, recession, and inflammation. We assess your bite to identify grinding, clenching, or alignment issues. We screen for oral cancer and other abnormalities.

This thorough approach allows us to catch problems when they’re small and easy to treat. A cavity caught early can be fixed with a simple filling. Left untreated, that same cavity could eventually require a crown or root canal.

Removing What Your Toothbrush Can't

Even with excellent brushing and flossing, plaque and tartar build up in hard-to-reach areas over time. Professional cleanings remove this buildup before it causes decay or gum disease.

Our hygienists use gentle techniques to clean above and below the gumline, protecting your teeth and gums from damage. You’ll relax in a massaging chair with a TV to keep you comfortable and entertained throughout your cleaning.

We believe dental care should feel like self-care, not a chore. Our team takes the time to ensure you’re comfortable and at ease during every visit.

Seeing What The Eye Can't

We use Nomad all-digital imaging to reveal what’s happening beneath the surface. Digital x-rays show cavities between teeth, bone loss from gum disease, infections at the root tips, and other issues that aren’t visible during a visual exam.

Digital technology offers significant advantages. Up to 90% less radiation than traditional film. Instant images we can review together on a screen. No messy impressions or uncomfortable trays.

We also use digital scanners instead of traditional impressions for restorations, making the entire experience faster and more comfortable.

Catching Issues Early

Many dental problems don’t cause symptoms until they’re advanced. Regular exams allow us to detect issues before you feel any discomfort.

Early detection means simpler, less invasive treatment. It also means less time in the dental chair, lower costs, and better long-term outcomes. Prevention and early intervention are always easier than addressing problems after they’ve progressed.

Care That's Tailored To You

No two smiles are the same, and neither are our care plans. After your exam and cleaning, we’ll sit down with you to discuss what we found and create a personalized plan that fits your needs.

Some patients need cleanings every six months. Others with gum disease or a history of cavities may benefit from more frequent visits, typically every three to four months. We’ll recommend the schedule that keeps your oral health stable and prevents problems from developing.

You’ll always know what’s happening, why it matters, and what your options are. We believe in education, not pressure. Our job is to give you the information you need to make confident decisions about your care.

Tracking Your Progress

Oral health changes over time. Regular visits allow us to monitor those changes, track the progression of any issues, and adjust your care plan as needed.

We keep detailed records and use digital imaging to compare your oral health over time. This helps us identify trends, catch problems early, and ensure that your preventive care is working.

Taking Care At Home

Professional care is only part of the equation. What you do at home between visits matters just as much. After your cleaning, we’ll provide personalized guidance on brushing technique, flossing effectively, and choosing the right products for your needs.

We don’t push products or make sales pitches. We simply share what works and help you build habits that keep your smile healthy. Good home care combined with regular professional visits gives you the best chance of avoiding cavities, gum disease, and other problems.
